We Disagree with North Tyneside Councils Proposal for School Mergers/Closures
We strongly disagree with the current pre-consultation on North Tyneside schools because it feels like decisions have already been made without genuine input from families, staff, or the wider community. Parents and carers deserve a real say in shaping the future of our children’s education — not to be presented with options that seem predetermined.
The proposals risk disrupting thriving school communities, increasing travel distances for pupils, and putting extra pressure on families already juggling work and childcare. We believe that every child in North Tyneside deserves access to high-quality education close to home, in a supportive environment where they feel known and valued.
This process should be about listening, transparency, and collaboration — not ticking boxes. We urge the council to truly engage with parents, teachers, and residents before making any lasting changes to our local schools.

working days
is all the time parents have to disagree with the council’s plans and come up with a “viable alternative” — whatever their mysterious definition of viable might be!
20
working days
is the maximum time it can take to respond to our Freedom of Information request and provide the evidence used to justify their decision. However, to date, they’ve refused to clarify what that evidence is, offering only partial and often contradictory details.

school closures
Don’t be mis-led by the word ‘merger’ all it means is that the pupils of 3 schools know where they are going. The council have NO PLAN for Monkseaton Middle Schools children.

Safety Valve Debacle
The Safety Valve Agreement isn’t just a failure by North Tyneside Council — it’s a serious failure by the Department for Education too. It prioritises budgets over children and punishes families for years of financial mismanagement. Could this be the route cause of the problem?
